اليوم هو اليوم الذي نستعيد فيه حقنا لاختيار مستقبلنا. في وثيقة الأسرى التي صدرت عام 2006 ، دعا التجمع الوطني الفلسطيني إلى إعادة تنشيط منظمة التحرير الفلسطينية من خلال تشكيل مجلس وطني فلسطيني جديد عن طريق الانتخابات المباشرة. تم الاتفاق على هذا النوع من التمثيل الديمقراطي والوحدة الوطنية من قبل الأحزاب الرئيسية وطنية وإسلامية، وهو يعكس الارادة الشعبية للفلسطينيين. لا يسع أحد للتأكيد وتسجيد سيادة الشعب الفلسطيني وقدرته على تشكيل مصيره إلا مجلس وطني لفلسطيني يتم انتخابه مباشرة، ومعاملته كأعلى هيئة تشريعية لكل الفلسطينيين، بغض النظر عن المكان الذي يعيشون فيه.

الأحداث الأخيرة في تونس ومصر، و ما صدر مؤخرا من أوراق فلسطين، أبرز الأزمة الخطيرة التي تعاني منها القيادة في الساحة الوطنية و أكد الحاجة إلى التمثيل الشرعي. بالإضافه إلى ذلك، ابرزت الأوراق القطاعات الواسعة غير الممثلة من الشعب الفلسطيني، مثل اللاجئين، الذين لايمكنهم المشاركة في تشريع السياسات الوطنية.

تستند الحملة على مبدأ وطني كائن منذ وقت طويل و هو اننا نحن جميعا مواطنين فلسطينيين، لدينا كل الحق في التصويت، و الانتخابات يجب أن تشمل الفلسطينيين أينماكانوا، سواء في الوطن أو في أماكن اللجوء وشتات. و تنفيذ هذا المبدأ الديمقراطي ضمان لحماية حقوق الشعب الفلسطيني الغير قابلة للنقاش، بما في ذلك حق اللاجئين في العودة إلىديارهم وقراهم.

لذلك تجمع الشبان الفلسطينيين معا في اسم الاتحاد العام لطلبة فلسطين لإطلاق حملة وطنية للتمثيل الديمقراطي، وبدؤها باعتصام في السفارة الفلسطينية في لندن يوم 27 يناير لإعلان يدعو إلى استعادة حقنا الأساسي في المشاركة في العملية السياسية الفلسطينيه.

وانطلاقاً من روح الوحدة الوطنية التي جمعتنا هنا، وبهدف ترك الحزبية والفصائلية خلفنا من أجل تحرير وطننا والعودة إلى ديارنا نعلن:

1.الدعوة لانتخابات مباشرة للمجلس الوطني الفلسطيني، الهيئة البرلمانية التي تعطي السلطة وتنشىء البرنامج السياسي، والاستراتيجيات والسياسات لمنظمة التحرير الفلسطينية، والذي نطالب بعقده خلال عام واحد من هذا اليوم، في كانون الثاني/ (يناير) 2011.
2. إدراج جميع أبناء شعبنا في تلك الانتخابات أينما كانوا يعيشون الآن- في الوطن، وفي الشتات، وفي السجون وفي مخيمات اللاجئين.
3. إن هذه الهيئة الممثلة الجديدة، هي انعكاس لجميع قطاعات شعبنا، لإصلاح وإعادة تفعيل مؤسسات منظمة التحرير الفلسطينية بحيث تجسد إرادة الشعب الفلسطيني ككل، وفقاً لمبدأ الانتخابات المباشرة.

وقد قدمت هذه المطالب الثلاثة إلى رئيس الوفد الفلسطيني في المملكة المتحدة، مانويل حساسيان، وطلب أن يسلمها الى قيادة منظمة التحرير الفلسطينية في رام الله. بعد وقت قصير من وصول نشطاء الاتحاد العام لطلبة فلسطين ، بدأ العمل على بعث الرسالة إلى جميع أنحاء العالم. تخلل الاعتصام لزيارات من فلسطينيين من جميع أنحاء المملكة المتحدة من قادة المجتمع والأكاديميين و ناشطين قدامى لاظهار الدعم والتشجيع للحملة والدعوة لتسريع إنتخابات المجلس الوطني الفلسطيني.

ممارسة حقنا الديمقراطي في التصويت كمواطنين فلسطينيين هو الأمر الوحيد الذي سيبدأ في رأب الانقسام السياسي الذي عانينا منه لفترة طويلة، بالإضافه إلى استعادة مؤسساتنا الوطنية لشعبنا كافة. اليوم، الطلبة الفلسطينيين لعبوا دورهم التاريخي في تجديد حركتنا في وقت الخطر، تماماً كما فعلوا قبل خمسة عقود من خلال تأسيس الاتحاد العام لطلبة فلسطين . هذه المهمة تقع على عاتق كل واحد منا،بوصفنا مواطنين فلسطينيين أينما كنا، علينا أن نسير على سيادتنا الشعبية، والأن قد أضاءت الشرارة.

We are all Palestinian citizens, we all have the right to vote.

Today it is time to reclaim our democratic right to shape our own destiny. The Palestinian national consensus, as expressed in the 2006 Prisoners’ Document, calls for the reactivation of the PLO through the formation of a new Palestinian National Council by means of direct elections. This axiom of democratic representation and national unity was agreed upon by the major patriotic and Islamic parties and it reflects the popular will of Palestinians. The sovereign will of the Palestinian people and its ability to shape its own destiny can only be embodied in a directly elected PNC, the highest legislative body of all Palestinians, no matter where they live.

This need for legitimate representation is confirmed by recent events in Tunis and Egypt, where the people have strikingly highlighted the serious crisis of leadership in the national arena. The recent publication of The Palestine Papers showed much the same thing, and illustrated the degree to which large sectors of the Palestinian people, especially refugees, are not currently represented, nor can they participate in the legislation of national platforms and policies.

With these realities in mind, young Palestinians came together in the name of the General Union of Palestine Students to initiate the national campaign for democratic representation with a sit-in at the Palestinian embassy in London on January 27. The campaign was launched with a declaration calling for a restoration of our basic right to participate in our own political process.

In the spirit of national unity, the campaign focuses on three demands:

1.The call for direct elections to the Palestine National Council, the parliamentary body that gives authority to and creates the political platform, strategies and policies for the Palestine Liberation Organization, to be held one year from this day, in January, 2011.

2. The inclusion of all our people wherever they now live - in the homeland, the Shatat, in the prisons, and the camps of refuge in that election.

3. That this new representative body, reflective of all sectors of our people, reform and reactivate the PLO institutions so that they embody the will of the Palestinian people as a whole, in accordance with the principle of direct elections.

These three demands, already a collectively held position by Palestinians across the world, were presented to the head of the Palestinian Delegation to the UK, Manuel Hassassian, and he was asked to deliver it to the PLO leadership in Ramallah. Soon after the arrival of the GUPS activists, work began on relaying the message around the world. Meetings proceeded with the ambassador and the buzz of activity was only interrupted by visits from Palestinians from across the UK: leaders of the community, academics and old veterans of the movement, all coming to show support and encouragement for the launch of the campaign for direct elections to the PNC.

The campaign is based on the principle which is a long standing national demand. It was articulated in the GUPS declaration in simple form: ‘We are all Palestinian citizens, we all have the right to vote.’ Elections must include Palestinians wherever they are, both those in the homeland and those in the places of refuge and the shatat. The implementation of this democratic principle would guarantee the protection of inalienable Palestinian rights, including the right of refugees to return to their homes and villages.

It is only through exercising our democratic right to vote as Palestinian citizens that we can begin to heal the fragmentation our politics has suffered from for so long, and reclaim our national institutions for all our people. Today, Palestinian students once again played their historic role in regenerating our movement at a time of national danger and depletion, as they did five decades ago with the founding of GUPS. This task falls to all of us, as Palestinian citizens wherever we may be, to once again insist on our popular sovereignty. The spark has been lit.

لندن ـ ‘القدس العربي’: اعتصمت مجموعة من الطلبة الفلسطينيين بمكتب الممثلية الفلسطينية في العاصمة البريطانية لندن مطالبين بـ’اصلاح مؤسسات منظمة التحرير الفلسطينية’، بعد طلبها موعدا مع السفير الفلسطيني مانويل حساسيان، لكنهم وصلوا قبل السفير واستقروا في مكتبه. ووزعت المجموعة بيانا دعت فيه الى ‘عقد انتخابات مباشرة للمجلس الوطني خلال عام، واعتماد وثيقة الوفاق الصادرة عن الاسرى الفلسطينيين عام 2006 لإتمام المصالحة الفلسطينية’.
وقال المتحدث باسم الطلبة المعتصمين عبد الرازق التكريتي لـ’القدس العربي’ ‘ان مجموعة الطلبة لا توجه اصبع الاتهام لاي احد واننا نعمل بروح وطنية غير فصائلية’.
وطالبوا في بيانهم ‘نحن في مكتب وفد منظمة التحرير الفلسطينية في المملكة المتحدة، ومن أجل أن نعيد التأكيد على حقوقنا غير القابلة للتصرف، واليوم نحن نطالب بحقنا في المشاركة الديمقراطية في رسم مصيرنا. ونبدأ بمبادرة وطنية لحملة انتخابات مباشرة للمجلس الوطني الفلسطيني، على الوفاق التام بأنه ليس هناك سوى إصلاح المؤسسات التمثيلية الوطنية والتي تتضمن إرادة جميع الفلسطينيين- أولئك الذين ناضلوا في الوطن وأولئك الذين ناضلوا في المنفى- يستطيعون إنشاء منصة تمثيل للفلسطينيين وعودة منظمة التحرير الفلسطينية كممثل شرعي وحيد للشعب الفلسطيني’.
كما طالبوا قي بيانهم بـ’إدراج جميع أبناء شعبنا في تلك الانتخابات أينما كانوا يعيشون الآن في الوطن، وفي الشتات، وفي السجون وفي مخيمات اللاجئين’.
وفي وقت لاحق وصل السفير الفسطيني الذي رحب بدوره بالطلبة معتبرا ان ‘السفارة بمثابة منزلهم وانهم يستطيعون الذهاب اليها متى شاؤوا، وهو سفيرهم وممثلهم في بريطانيا، كما وعدهم بالاستماع الى مطالبهم وتوصيلها الى الجهات المسؤولة.
وقال التكريتي ان الوثائق التي نشرتها ‘الجزيرة’ بشأن المفاوضات الفلسطينية الاسرائيلية شجعتهم على اخذ هذه الخطوة.
وفي وقت لاحق نفت المفوضية الفلسطينية العامة لدى المملكة المتحدة أن يكون مقرها قد تعرض لأي اقتحام وفق ما أفادت به قناة الجزيرة الخميس. وقالت المستشارة السياسية في البعثة الدبلوماسية الفلسطينية ميسون الشرفا ‘اننا فوجئنا بما أوردته قناة الجزيرة الفضائية، حول اقتحام طلبة فلسطينيين مقر البعثة عصر الخميس’.
وأضافت الشرفا ‘أن الطلبة الفلسطينيين مرحب بهم دائما في مقر بعثتهم، وكانوا اليوم (امس) في زيارة اعتيادية لمقر المفوضية للقاء سعادة السفير مانويل حاساسيان، وفق موعد مسبق، للتباحث في أمور عدة، منها الخاص ومنها العام’.

نحن شباب فلسطينيونمن الاتحادالعام لطلبة فلسطين، نجتمع هنا اليوممحيين الدور الجوهري الذي لعبه اتحادنا في الكفاح من أجل التحرير. فمنذ التأسيسالرسمي للاتحاد قبل أكثرمنخمسة عقود، كاندوماً في طليعة التعبئة والحشد لأبناء شعبنا و تنشيط التزامنا لفلسطين، وخصوصاً في أوقات الأزمات والاستنزاف الوطني.

We, Palestinian youth of the General Union of Palestinian Students, hereby announce that our sit-in at the Palestinian Embassy in London today has just ended. We gathered there today in honour of the integral part our union has played in the struggle for liberation. Since its official foundation more than five decades ago, GUPS has been at the forefront of mobilising our people and regenerating our commitment to free Palestine, especially in times of national danger and depletion. We came to the office of the PLO delegation to the United Kingdom in order to reassert our inalienable rights, and to claim our right to democratically participate in the shaping of our destiny. We have successfully launched a national initiative to campaign for direct elections to the Palestinian National Council (PNC), on the clear understanding that only a reformed national representative institution that includes the will of all Palestinians – those struggling in the homeland and those struggling in exile – can create a representative Palestinian platform, and restore the PLO as the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people.

 We encourage all other groups and sectors of our vibrant Palestinian society – the labour movement, the women’s associations, the teachers’ unions, the refugees in all their different locations – will join us in revitalising the representative institutions which belong to and honour all of the Palestinian people.

 We call on fellow Palestinian citizens around the world to join in this mobilisation behind the national unity principles and carry on the campaign for national representation. As the sit-in enters its eighth hour, talks continue peacefully with the ambassador, more Palestinians, students and otherwise, have arrived to join us, and we continue to seek your support and understanding of our demands.

A group of Palestinian academics and students have entered the Palestinian embassy in London calling for a right of representation…and calling for a number of demands (see below).

We are not affiliated to any Political faction, or group. Today we are all the “Palestinian neglected voice” , the voice of the Palestinian youth at and in exile.

We, Palestinian youth of the General Union of Palestinian students, gather here today in honour of the integral part our union has played in the struggle for liberation. Since its official foundation more than five decades ago, GUPS has been at the forefront of mobilising our people and regenerating our commitment to Palestine, especially in times of national danger and depletion. We are at the office of the PLO delegation to the United Kingdom in order to reassert our inalienable rights, and today we claim our right to democratically participate in the shaping of our destiny. Its second point of national unity urgently calls for the reactivation of the PLO through its democratic mechanisms, enfranchising all Palestinians, the millions of refugees in exile, and those inside. We are all Palestinian citizens, we all have the right to vote. We declare here that we insist upon this right to form our national institutions.

We announce, in the spirit of national unity that brought us here, and with the aim of leaving behind factionalism in order to liberate our homeland and return to our homes:

1.The call for direct elections to the Palestine National Council, the parliamentary body that gives authority to and creates the political platform, strategies and policies, for the Palestine Liberation Organisation, to be held one year from this day, in January, 2011.
2. The inclusion of all our people wherever they now live - in the homeland, the shatat, in the prisons, and the camps of refuge in that election.
3. That this new representative body, reflective of all sectors of our people, reform and reactivate the PLO institutions so that they embody the will of the Palestinian people as a whole, in accordance with the principle of direct elections.

We urge all Palestinians at this critical moment to join our call for representation, and to take up our historic responsibility in the struggle for liberation, only on the basis of popular sovereignty. Protesters occupy London PLO office as anti-government demonstrations sweep Mideast

General Union of Palestinian Students conduct a sit-in and call for the Palestinian diaspora to have a voice in their national affairs.

A group of Palestinian students have staged a sit-in at the premises of the Palestinian diplomatic mission in London in protest against the Palestinian Authority (PA).
 
The demonstration against the PA on Thursday came in reaction to the publication by Al Jazeera of hundreds of leaked documents relating to Israeli-Palestinian negotiations titled The Palestine Papers, our correspondent in London said.
 
Those involved in the sit-in demanded reforms of Palestinian institutions, including the PA, and announced plans for a year-long campaign for holding direct elections to the Palestinian National Council.
 
They called on all Palestinian factions to endorse the document for national reconciliation that was approved by the representatives of Palestinian prisoners in 2006, and to treat it as the basis for national reconciliation.

Al Jazeera had been given unhindered access to the largest-ever leak of confidential documents related to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. There are nearly 1,700 files, thousands of pages of diplomatic correspondence detailing the inner workings of the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.

The material, voluminous and detailed, it provides an unprecedented look inside the continuing negotiations involving high-level American, Israeli, and Palestinian Authority officials.

قامت مجموعة تضم أكثر من 15 طلاباً  من الاتحاد العام للطلبة الفلسطينيين، بدخول مبنى مفوضية منظمة التحرير في العاصمة البريطانية لندن والاعتصام هناك مطالبين بحقهم باجراء انتخابات مباشرة للمجلس الوطني الفلسطيني والمطالبة بحقهم في المشاركة الديمقراطية لاصلاح المؤسسات التمثيلية الفلسطينية.

 وأصدر الطلاب بيانًا تلقى موقع عرب 48 نسخة منه جاء فيه: ” نجتمع هنا اليوم تكريماً الجزء الذي لا يتجزأ لاتحادنا الذي لعبه في الكفاح من أجل التحرير. ومنذ تأسيسه الرسمي أكثر من خمسة عقود مضت، فإن الاتحاد العام للطلبة الفلسطينيين كان في طليعة التعبئة والحشد لأبناء شعبنا وتجديد التزامنا بفلسطين حرة، خصوصاً في أوقات الخطر والاستنزاف الوطني. نحن في مكتب وفد منظمة التحرير الفلسطينية في المملكة المتحدة، ومن أجل أن نعيد التأكيد على حقوقنا غير القابلة للتصرف، واليوم نحن نطالب بحقنا في المشاركة الديمقراطية في رسم مصيرنا. ونبدأ بمبادرة وطنية لحملة انتخابات مباشرة للمجلس الوطني الفلسطيني، على الوفاق التام بأنه ليس هناك سوى إصلاح المؤسسات التمثيلية الوطنية والتي تتضمن إرادة جميع الفلسطينيين- أولئك الذين ناضلوا  في الوطن وأولئك الذين ناضلوا في المنفى- يستطيعون إنشاء منصة تمثل للفلسطينيين وعودة منظمة التحرير الفلسطينية كممثل شرعي وحيد للشعب الفلسطيني.”

The offices of the Palestinian ambassador to the UK have been occupied by a group of students who are demanding new Palestinian national council elections.

At 1pm today, around a dozen Palestinian students from a number of British universities arrived at the Palestinian general delegation to the UK in Hammersmith, west London.

Although they had made an appointment to see the ambassador, Professor Manuel Hassassian, they arrived in large numbers and with computers and banners.

A spokesman for the students said they had been moved to stage a peaceful sit-in by the release of leaked Palestinian papers over the last few days.

“The documents confirmed what we had known all along — that they are out of touch with the people,” the spokesman said.

As well as calling for new elections, the students — from Oxford, SOAS, LSE, City and Westminster universities — are demanding a more inclusive political process that reflects and engages all Palestinians.

“We are ready to stay as long as necessary until our message has been received and understood,” he said.

The ambassador, whose office has been occupied, has asked the students to leave the room but has told them they are welcome to remain in the building.

“They told me they wanted to hold a sit-in in my office. I told them: ‘You’re welcome. This is your embassy. This is your home’,” he said.

Hassassian also said he had agreed to pass their demands on to the Palestinian government, but needed his office back if he was to relay them.

“We are being very hospitable and we hope that they respect our hospitality,” he said.

Two Metropolitan police officers entered the embassy a little after 4pm, and chatted to the ambassador and protesters.
